mhya’ s Footlights may only just be finished with their big production of 2013 but are now appealing for help to write the main performance of 2014.
On the 28th July 1914 the world went to war, a global war that lasted four years and saw more than 9 million soldiers killed in battle and millions more injured.Today those memories of those who lost their life serving their country, fighting for freedom remain high in our thoughts. In conflicts since many thousands of families have suffered loss through the battlefields of Europe and beyond in to current conflict the past few decades have seen.
Horndean and Merchistoun Hall itself has a long history with military personnel and their families. Every year the Remembrance service in the village grows in number. Hundreds stand in silence as eleven o’ clock strikes and all you can hear is the birds and the breeze around you.
In 2014, we mark 100 years of the outbreak of World War 1 and 70 years since D-Day. The Government have launched the First World War Centenary Programme of events that will take place between 2014-2018. mhya Footlights would like to create its own unique and original piece of theatre that encompasses Horndean and surrounding areas during WW1. They will be applying for grants to help aid all aspects of the performance and with the hope to be able to tour it within the local area. mhya Footlights have proudly signed up to the First World War Centenary programme and hope to gain as much local knowledge as possible for this project.
To ensure historical accuracy mhya Footlights is appealing for local people and or historians that could help provide information, stories, photographs and memories of Horndean and the local villages of Catherington, Clanfield, Rowlands Castle to come forward and help us write a very special and unique play that holds the highest respect for all those local people and their families that lost their lives during the Great War. If you are able to help or know somebody that can please contact Lisa Clements (Voluntary Youth Arts Advisor for mhya) either by email on email@example.com or by phone on 07834997016.
